There is perhaps no more divisive day than Valentine's Day and most of us agree that our private lives are better left outside the office. But February 14 can also be about small acts of kindness and collegiality in the workplace. Here's how to bring a little Valentine's Day cheer into the office:

See you at home!

Imagine your colleagues arriving to a winter treat. Whether it's a hot chocolate or a doughnut, you're sure to feel good! In the afternoon, a fruit bar, waffles, pretzels... sounds good, right? For indoor snack bars, contact kanozsai.cyntia@eventgroup.hu.

Lásd vendégül!

Say thank you!

Place an envelope with the name of your team members / each colleague in the office for one or more days. Leave pens and small pieces of paper near the envelopes. Advertise the campaign on internal channels and encourage colleagues to write to each other, either with or without their names, why they are grateful to the other, what they like about him/her, why they look up to him/her... so anything kind. You can't take anything out of the envelope, you have to take it home on the last day of the campaign and read the kindnesses at home in the evening. A cost-effective but all the more effective initiative. Handwrite or print the names on the envelopes, making sure you don't write on the regular side but on the other side so that you can easily stick a message on the wall. If you'd like a detailed game rule that you can print out straight away, or are stuck on how to do it, email info@eventgroup.hu and we'll help.

Köszönd meg!

Sarcastic and funny public opinion poll

Since Valentine's Day can be very divisive, build a little humor and kindness into it. Place several food dispensers in a central location with different or identical snacks: small pretzels/crackers or chocolates... label the dispensers with funny phrases:

Put a basic phrase on top:

Today I would like to...

I think Valentine's Day is...

This is how I feel today...

Put possible endings on the snack dispensers. At the end of the day, you can see the general mood of the office based on the weight loss of the dispensers.

Keep this idea for future (not too serious) polls, mood surveys.

What do you need? -Wall

A simple and symbolic, low-energy thoughtfulness. Make a strikingly sized What do you need? sign and place labelled envelopes around it with short messages, quotes and phrases that match the title, for anyone to take away. Quasi is a non-personalised, simplified version of the Thank You Wall.

Neked mire van szükséged?

Surprise masseur

How would you like to have 5-10 minutes at work when a professional gives you a refreshing neck and shoulder massage? Designate a meeting room as a spa room, set the stage for relaxation with a little music, maybe some essential oils and leave the rest to the masseur. Professionals arrive with massage chairs and can refresh anyone in 5-10 minutes. It's worth putting a schedule on the door and making sure that everyone initially signs up only once.

Most of the ideas above can be done well on a low budget, and can work well with smaller and larger staff.

They can put a smile on colleagues' faces at any time of the year, regardless of Valentine's Day. Popular campaigns can even be made systematic. This will tailor the work environment and culture to colleagues, make them more willing to spend time at work and increase retention and engagement.

Last but not least, these little touches can be highlighted in any corporate communication.

If you've implemented any of the above ideas or have any ideas you'd like to take further, send them to us, we'd love to hear your feedback! Good luck with the organisation!
